About

The Privacy Awareness Week or PAW is a national celebration of data privacy rights in the Philippines, aimed at advancing protection of personal information while ensuring the free flow  of information. This year it shall be held from May 25 to 31.

Pursuant to President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s Proclamation No. 527 in 2018, the PAW is annually observed every last week of May by public and private institutions, with the National Privacy Commission (NPC) acting as lead agency. This, in recognition of the “need to inform and educate the public about data privacy, data protection and fair information rights and responsibilities as part of reinforcing the efforts of the NPC in protecting personal data and ensuring the Philippines’ compliance with international standards set for data protection.”

In line with this, organizations and other personal information controllers and processors are encouraged to actively engage their data subjects through NPC's suggested 5 ways to celebrate PAW.

The PAW is also aligned with the annual effort to raise privacy awareness across member countries of the Asia Pacific Privacy Authorities (APPA), which include the Philippines. This year marks the third time we officially celebrate PAW in solidarity with other members and privacy adherents all over the world.

This year's theme, "Protecting the Digital Filipino: Accountability, Compliance & Ethics in a Data-driven Philippines," focuses on boosting privacy safeguards and raising the sense of accountability, compliance and ethics of entities that handle personal data. This, with a view to fully harnessing global economic opportunities in an era of digital transformation.

Serving as NPC's flagship event in celebration of PAW2019 is the 2nd National Data Privacy Conference slated on May 23 and 24 at the Philippine International Convention Center.

5 ways to celebrate PAW

And to kick off your organization’s Privacy Awareness Week celebration, play the NPC advocacy video (Soon) during your flag raising ceremony!

Take Pride

How about starting with your organization’s PRIVACY NOTICE? You can translate it into a fun video or poster highlighting how your customers benefit from your privacy compliance.
